An integrated program designed to introduce and reinforce reading & writing skills with an emphasis on developing stronger grammar, vocabulary and writing techniques.
Term 1
- Writing Styles: Descriptive Paragraphs, Letter Writing
- Writing Fundamentals: Sentence Structure, Descriptive words and phrases, Structure of a letter, Mindmapping, Strong Verbs/Adjectives, Sentence/Word Variation
- Grammar: adjectives, adverbs, parts of speech, capitalization, plurals
- Vocabulary: 40-50 words
Term 2
- Writing Styles: Fairy Tales, Travel Journals
- Writing Techniques: Story Structure, Story starters, Descriptive words, Character Building & Plot Development
- Grammar: subject-verb agreement, strong adjectives, past tense, conjunctions
- Vocabulary: 40-50 words
Term 3
- Writing Styles: Story Telling, Picture Prompts
- Writing Techniques: Story Planning, Transitions, Elaborating Ideas, Including Dialogues, Paint a Picture with Five Senses
- Grammar: speech marks, dialogue words, prepositions, correct usage of commas
- Vocabulary: 40-50 words
Term 1
- Writing Styles: Fiction, Fictional Narrative
- Writing Techniques: Brainstorming, Story Planning, Introductions, Character Construction, Sequencing Events, Attention Grabbers
- Grammar: action verbs, speech marks, past tense, personal pronouns, plurals, synonyms & antonyms, comparative adjectives

Term 2
- Writing Styles : Adventure, Fairy Tales with a Twist
- Writing Techniques: Story Rollercoaster, Action writing, Building a Scene with Details, Constructing a Problem/Challenge, Adventurous Introductions, Venn Diagram, Story Mapping, Adding a Twist
- Grammar: homophones, articles, apostrophes and contractions, sentence starters
- Vocabulary: 50-60 words
Term 3

- Writing Techniques: Sentence Variation, Painting a Word Picture, Conveying Feelig and Tone, Mysterious Settings, Similes, Asking the Right Questions
- Grammar: compound words, combining sentences, comparatives & superlatives, antonyms and prefixes
- Vocabulary: 50-60 words
Term 1

- Writing Techniques: Strong dialogue, Different Story Beginnings & Endings, Step-by-Step Outline, Setting the Scene, Character Sketch, Similes and Metaphors, Editing
